Product Review: Dublin Hanna Mesh Show Jacket
Written by Becky Mead on behalf of The Drill Shed
With the announcement of competitions allowed to re-start, everyone is wanting to look and feel their best. Whether it’s a new pair of breeches, some flash new boots or even a whole wardrobe update, I wanted to use this opportunity to tell you all about the gorgeous Hanna Mesh Show Jacket - A must-have part of your summer competition outfit!
What makes this jacket special? Well, this starts with the material. The Hanna is made from a stretch mesh nylon, meaning it’s going to keep you cool at all times when riding. Not only that, but the look of the jacket is incredibly unique, which I love. The mesh is visible when on the hanger, but once worn with clothing underneath, the mesh becomes camouflaged creating a ‘block’ colour – as you can see in the photos. As well as this, the double vented back also contributes to temperature control, making you feel as comfortable as possible in the saddle. It features a flattering princess seam construction and a hidden centre zip closure with 3 buttons for extra security, creating a lovely fit for anyone. And to add the finishing touch, the jacket comes in a garment bag, with a hanger – perfect preparation for show day! One feature you may miss in the images is that of the branding on the upper arm, subtle, but adding a touch of elegance.
Colour & Size Combinations
The Hanna Mesh comes in two colours: Black or Navy. My personal favourite is the Navy. As deep as it looks in the lifestyle images, as you can see from my competition photos, the navy is vibrant and stands out from the crowd! It is available in two size way, Ladies and Children’s – from a Ladies UK 8 to UK 18 and Child’s age 6 to age 14.
What did I think?
My first impression of the jacket, I thought, wow this is lightweight! I was cautious it was going to be slightly transparent, but when trying on, the mesh works like magic. As soon as another piece of material sits underneath, the jacket creates the illusion of being thicker material.
How did I find the fit?
Well, I can confidently say this is one of the most flattering jackets I have worn! I can be quite conscious of my upper body (being a bigger bust for my size) and the majority of show jackets create a ‘boxy’ shape. With the Hanna, due to no shoulder padding, the stretch material sits comfortably over my shoulders and the princess cut helps to create that fitted feminine shape. Some jackets that feature button closures, come undone or look messier, being able to see through the gaps of the buttons – extremely uncomfortable when riding. With the hidden front zip closure and buttons, the Hanna has the optimal fit for all riders, creating an overall secure and elegant look. As well as this, I can safely say the jacket is true to size – I am normally a UK 8, and the Ladies 8 fit perfectly.
I fully understand the requirements from a show Jacket for each discipline and will say the Hanna Mesh meets those requirements, and more. With Show Jackets it can be difficult to get the best fit, but as you can tell this jacket will cater for all shapes and sizes. I felt great riding in the jacket and received several comments about how great it looked on the day! A must-have part of your summer competition outfit!
